Optimism is the foundation of Happiness.
Happiness is the state of being content and satisfied with one’s life. It is a feeling of joy, fulfillment, and peace. Optimism is the belief that things will go well in the future. It is a positive outlook on life.
Optimism is essential for happiness. When we are optimistic, we are more likely to see the good in people and situations. We are also more likely to believe in ourselves and our ability to achieve our goals. This positive outlook on life can lead to a number of benefits, including: Improved health, greater success, as well as happy relationships.
Optimism is a choice. It is a choice to see the good in people and situations. It is a choice to believe in yourself and your ability to achieve your goals. If you want to be happier, choose to be optimistic.

Tapping our intrinsic joy essentially signifies dwelling optimistically. Those with a positive outlook are frequently healthier and more fruitful. “No encouragement is so effective as self encouragement,” wrote the renowned Harvard University historian and economist David S. Landes in his 1999 book ,The Wealth and Penury of Nations: Why some are so Wealthy and some so Impoverished. In this world, the optimists have it, not because they are always right, but because they are always positive. Even when wrong, they are positive, and that is the way to achievement.”

Buddhism teaches us to regard everything in a positive light, as a chance for progress , as the crude material for developing intrinsic happiness. The practice of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo in Nichiren Buddhism is the wellspring of this optimism and development, what Buddhism calls “value creation .” This wellspring enables practitioners to turn everything in their lives, joys and sufferings similarly , into reasons for intrinsic happiness.

As a result, individuals develop conviction in their power to transform even extreme suffering into the crude material of happiness. With this power ,everything is a benefit ,a chance.

Let’s turn to another real-life example. One fifty-eight- year-old engineering director and Buddhist practitioner, who had dedicated his entire career to a large company, found his joy and self-assurance seriously tested when he lost his job as a consequence of downsizing.

At his age, his job prospects were poor. Although he made extraordinary attempts to look for work ,weeks turned into months with no job on the horizon. Household funds were used up,bills were unpaid.

But the real challenge was that he began to lose hope. This loss of hope drained him of the determination and vitality necessary to examine and ready for a new career. He was confronted with the prospect of losing everything for which he had worked.

He came face to face with the fickle nature of a happiness based on success, position and material wealth.
He sought guidance from other experienced Buddhists and learned to see his situation as a chance to develop a more strong foundation for his inner life, to pursue the treasures of the heart rather than those of the storehouse. He realized that he had been ignoring his family and other essential relationships as well as his health and personal progress. He had been , in effect ,trading gold for slag.

He concentrated on his Buddhist practice utilizing this predicament as a chance to establish a new path in life with his priorities aligned. He started to perceive his issue as a valuable possibility. This change in viewpoint infused him with a rejuvenated sense of optimism and resolve that stemmed from the depths of his existence. This provided him with a newfound vigor and a readiness to explore prospects in areas he had not previously entertained.

Almost instantly, a beginner level opening emerged in an entirely different sector. He examined it and discovered that it was unexpectedly thrilling. There were boundless opportunities for growth. He ultimately built a highly prosperous new career that was far more gratifying than his previous occupation. More significantly, his newly acquired success did not divert him from his dedication to personal growth, family, and friends. He maintained equilibrium in his life and experienced a level of happiness he never imagined attainable.
As Daisaku Ikeda has stated: “Genuine delight continuously springs forth from within your existence as you courageously confront each tempest of adversity. This kind of authentic joy flows incessantly. You cannot experience a truly deep and lasting happiness if you only seek to immerse yourself in comfortable situations devoid of intense challenges.”
So, how can you become more optimistic? Here are a few tips:
Focus on the good
Pay attention to the positive things in your life and in the world around you. This will help you to develop a more positive outlook on life.
